We launched The Exchange in 2019 as part of our objective to engage more men in the gender debate. The cross-mentoring programme matched industry-leading men with Bloom members to break down the barriers contributing to the gender divide in our industry. After a great first year, The Exchange is back and dedicated to forging new partnerships between men and women to make our industry more equal for all.

2020 Focus: The ethos of The Exchange is to open up a refreshingly honest dialogue between the genders, help break down the stereotypes that limit the way we interact in the workplace and work together to make our industry more equal for all. This year, we think the programme is more important than ever. We are living through an immense period of change and the way we work has never been transformed so quickly. The Coronavirus crisis has impacted us all in a variety of ways, and although men are more likely to contract coronavirus research shows that women are more likely to have been made redundant or furloughed during this time.

This has been a time of difficulty, a time of pain, a time for us to question ourselves and a time for us to realise how we want to want to live and work going forward. Now as we start to plan our return to our physical offices, the question is, do we just go back to how it was? Was our work the best it could have been? Did we have a culture that people felt they could be themselves in? In every crisis there is an opportunity, and the second half of 2020 is the time to champion and instigate change. Now more than ever, it is important to work together to shape a new future.

The ideal men for this mentoring scheme will be senior and influential within their company, with a history of supporting women in the workplace, who are up for being open-minded, ready to listen and be listened to, and motivated in finding ways to close the gender divide in our industry, one conversation at a time. The Bloom women who take part will be passionate about making real change in their industry and learning more about the male experience.

To be eligible to take part you must all be able to attend a kick-off session 9.15 - 10.45 on July 21st, as well as committing to having monthly conversations with your mentor over 6 months either in person or via phone/Zoom/Skype. The kick-off session will be moderated by Executive Leadership Coach Deena Gornick.

So if you are a senior man who is influential in his company or an agency leader then we need you to get involved. Male mentors will be selected via an applications process – the deadline is July 10th 2020 and successful applicants will be contacted by July 17th.
