How Bloom and Beleve are creating opportunities for young girls throughout adland

In 2018 we hosted our first Bloom and BelEve workshop. BelEve is a charity for girls  

working with 8 to 18 year olds; they help inspire and empower girls and young women to maximize their potential and celebrate their achievements. As Bloom we decided to partner with them to pay it forward to the next generation and help drive diversity within the communications industry. The day consisted of an overview of the communications industry, a guest speaker who gave a talk of her career journey and also a live brief for Shazam! 8 months on, Bloom invited the BelEve team back, and the girls that attended the day to watch a special screening and to hear about the box office targets and film success, as well as the actual media activation. Annie was one of the girls who was offered a work experience placement as a result of the workshop, and she has written a few words to describe her experience for us. 

 

"My name is Annie Wisbey, I am a sixth form student currently studying A-level Business, English Literature, and Geography, I have aspirations to explore the dynamic worlds of Marketing and Advertising and hope to pursue this as my future career.

During October, I attended a week's work experience with OOH advertising agency Kinetic, global communications company PHD Media and Warner Bros.
The first two days of my work experience I spent with Kinetic, where I attended group meetings, conducted competitor analysis for Warner Bros upcoming movies and also had a lovely lunch at Wahaca. In addition, the Kinetic team also aided in enhancing and refining my CV, which was extremely beneficial.

I then spent Wednesday and Thursday at PHD Media where I contributed to marketing and promotion strategies for Warner Bros upcoming movie Detective Pikachu in an action planning brief. Moreover, I also attended a meeting for Fantastic Beasts where we discussed the advancing premiere. On Thursday, I conducted research for the distribution report on the recent movie Venom, this involved investigating partnerships involving Venom, these include: Bremont Watches and a partnership with Italian football team AS Roma.

On my final day of work experience, I was very fortunate to spend the day with Warner Bros at their site in Holborn. My day consisted of reading and analysing data based on consumer trends as well as listening and contributing to a digital publicity and PR pitch for promotional plans involving DC's latest superhero movie Shazam.

Overall, I have learnt so much about the communications industry, my brain is now teeming with knowledge and many of my questions have been answered, as a result of my work experience, I have acquired many connections as well as a boost in confidence. I am extremely optimistic about my future steps and am presently looking at apprenticeships offered in the field."
